Satan’s Human Helpers
Satan’s Human Helpers
The Christian can’t understand the nature of evil or the proper response to it without knowing and accepting the Bible’s teaching regarding Satan and his demons.
Paradoxically, though all this is critical information in order to avoid confusion and error about Satan and his activity, it all occurs in the unseen world. We’ll never knowingly converse with a demon or recongnize demon possesion with certainty. Though we will come under Satanic attack, we won’t likely know with certainty, as the Apostle Paul knew in at least some cases, when that occurs.
That’s not always the case when we’re dealing with Satan’s human helpers, the lost. They are agents of evil operating in the visible world. We see them face to face and interact with them daily.
Sometimes we know when we’re dealing with Satan’s children. In today’s world many people boldly declare their rejection of God; we can take them at their word. Other times, their words and actions are so contrary to the teaching of Scripture that they give themselves away; you can recognize them by their fruit (Luke 6:43-45). For example, it’s unlikely someone who is pro-abortion has the spirit of God, regardless of whether or not he professes to be a Christian.
The lost are a tremendous asset to Satan. They’re his “flesh and blood” agents, his physical hands and feet, able to physically do and accomplish much that neither he nor his demons, as spiritual beings, can accomplish. For instance, without human helpers at many levels, Satan could never have achieved his victory in Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. He required human helpers at every step along the way, from filing the first legal pleadings, to making the final ruling.
Though the lost are effective in promoting Satan’s causes, it’s not without risk to him. This is because of the very thing that makes them effective; they operate in plain view. They are exposed. We can see, hear, and speak to the lost; we can resist them, and in so doing, resist Satan.
For all these reasons (that in many cases the lost can be recognized, that they’re our “flesh and blood” contacts with Satan, and that they can be resisted) it’s important for us to know who they are and to understand their nature. We’ll look at who they are next and then examine their nature.
